Taking a breath to look back

While we reluctantly take a break from performing, at least it gives us a chance to look back with pride at some of our fondest memories of our recent past. Take a look through the gallery below and see how many of our fantastic, innovative, often award-winning productions you can identify.

An update regarding our next production

Due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation and concern about the well-being of our membership and audiences, we've unfortunately had to take the difficult decision to postpone our next production until 2021. This is, of course, a major disappointment to us, but at this time the over-riding priority for APTG is the health of everybody associated with the group.

Many of you will know that our home for the past few decades, the Drake Hall, will soon be no more! Work is continuing apace on the brand new Amersham community hub. As major users of the existing Community Centre we've been involved in the planning of the new building, especially of course around the auditorium and supporting function rooms. It's great to see the structure of the new building taking shape now. Until the new performing space is available, the Drake Hall will still be available - good news, as it means we shouldn't be 'homeless' for any significant length of time! You can follow the latest news and check out the design of the new Chilterns Lifestyle Centre here.

We are currently trying to come up with some innovative ideas for engaging with our audiences during the restrictions, and hope to announce plans soon. If you have any suggestions of what you'd like us to do, why not Contact Us with your ideas? We'd love to hear from you!

We've Shut The Pit

Salt Of The Earth, November 2019

Thank you to all our wonderful audiences for letting us entertain you over the 3 nights of our latest production. Laughter and tears mingled in this touching show, bringing John Godber's world to life with an evocative soundtrack and amazing lighting effects, not to mention some stellar performances from our talented cast.

Check out our gallery to the right for some highlights, and watch this space for news of our next production in Spring 2020!

Waking from the Dream!
May 2019 saw APTG bring Shakespeare to Amersham in our amazing production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream".

Full houses were treated to an exhibition of colour and energy, comedy and peril. Thank you to all our audiences for supporting us, and for the laughs and applause!

Check out the gallery below for some highlights!

Each year APTG nominates a charity to support. In 2019 we are supporting the Motor Neurone Disease Association, a charity that aims to improve care and support for people with MND, their families and carers.

The MND Association funds and promotes research that leads to new understanding and treatments, as well as campaigning and raising awareness so the needs of people with MND and everyone who cares for them are recognised and addressed by wider society.

We will be collecting donations at each of our public events this year. Please do support this very worthwhile cause.

A farewell to "Barefoot In The Park"
A big thank you to everybody who came to support our production of Neil Simon's "Barefoot In The Park".

The play, revolving around two newlyweds living in a brownstone apartment in New York City in the 1960s, negotiating the ups and downs of married life over the course of 4 days, was another great success. Some marvellous performances and an innovative set brought out the comedy to superb effect in Simon's tale of the mismatched Corrie and Paul, as well as Corrie's buttoned-down mother and the eccentric gourmet upstairs.

We benefited from a very complimentary NODA review, which praised every aspect of the performance, from the skilful direction to the feats of technical innovation to the cast's American accents. Always nice to get some positive feedback!

Great Memories of "The Memory Of Water"!
Our May 2018 production, "The Memory Of Water" by Shelagh Stephenson may be over, but what a show it was!

We'd like to thank our wonderful audiences for their support and appreciation, and we hope you were blown away by the efforts of Lynne, her cast and the unsung heroes behind the scenes who brought this all together.

Details of our next production should be available soon, so watch this space, or follow us on our social media pages (just click on the links above). If you want to get involved more directly, why not come and join us?

Another Huge Success!
Our November 2017 production, Alan Ayckbourn's "A Chorus Of Disapproval", directed by Lesley Hart, was another triumph for Playgoers.

With great audiences each evening, including sell-outs on Friday and Saturday, this will count as one of the group's most successful shows in recent memory. A wonderful cast and brilliant technicals supporting the drama and songs made this a production full of fun, colour and poignancy.

Another 2017 Highlight!

'The Lady in the Van' by Alan Bennett

With a full audience every night and ending with rapturous applause I think we can safely say our production of Alan Bennett's 'The Lady in the Van' was a success!

Thank you to all who came to watch and supported us throughout the rehearsal period.  We couldn't do it without you.

Interview with a Director

Want to know what it's like to be a part of APTG?  Janice is a core member of our group, both on-stage and behind the scenes. She's taken time to tell us some of her favourite things about life in Playgoers, hot on the heels of directing the marvellously successful "Lady In The Van".
